What is Chip LED Cob?

August 28, 2025

Chip LED COB stands for Chip-on-Board Light-Emitting Diode. It’s a type of LED packaging technology where multiple tiny LED chips are directly mounted and bonded onto a single substrate (usually aluminum or ceramic) to form one compact lighting module.

Key Points About Chip LED COB:

  1. Chip-on-Board (COB) Technology:

    • Instead of packaging each LED chip individually, many chips are placed closely together on the same board.

    • This creates a uniform and bright light output without visible individual diodes.

  2. High Luminous Efficiency:

    • COB LEDs provide higher brightness and better light uniformity compared to traditional SMD (Surface-Mounted Device) LEDs.

  3. Thermal Management:

    • The substrate (often aluminum) helps dissipate heat efficiently, which improves lifespan and performance.

  4. Applications:

    • Used in spotlights, downlights, high bay lights, automotive headlights, flashlights, and other high-intensity lighting.
